Details about the talk:
We introduce Overpass API, an OSM data mirror with read-only API, currently known as OSM3S. First, we collect requirements and challenges for any OSM read-only mirror: Which use cases exist for mappers and their editors, for data consumers and their applications, and what is important for server operators? Which capabilities will be essential to overcome ambiguous tag semantics? How can such a server pave the way to make imports accessible for data consumers without threatening community edits? Second, we show with working examples which of the above mentioned problems can already be solved with Overpass API.

Details about the speaker:
I'm mapping for OSM since almost three years now. But with a strong background in mathematics and computer science, I'm putting most effort into improving the OSM infrastructure, in particular the presented Overpass API. I'm also the author of the public transport plugin for JOSM, which grew out of the project to map the entire PT network of Wuppertal.
