Amateur aerial surveying
Details about the talk:
There are occasions when aerial imagery is more helpful in making The Map than GPS traces. Quality imagery is so expensive that the availability is very low and is best in places already well mapped in OSM. The obvious solution is to crowdsource imagery-making the OpenStreetMap way. This is what grassrootsmapping.org does and I want to present some results of my own little research in budget methods of obtaining and later processing imagery for OSM use. Some of these methods, like kite-photography can be fun, social, participatory and an enhancement to OSM workshops. Other methods are just fun.
Details about the speaker:
Free Softtware advocate and a free software programmer at Intel Corporation, previously working in OpenedHand Ltd. Long-time OpenStreetMap contributor using his travels to do some mapping in many corners of the world. Recently started to take his kite with him on those travels. Now also on the board of Polish OpenStreetMap association.
